VIRTUAL STREAMING EVENT

Restoring Detroit’s Tree Canopy for Sustainable Community Growth

Detroit was once known as the “city of trees,” but disease, invasive insects, and budget cuts over time decimated our area’s distinctive tree canopy. But efforts are underway to replenish trees while also providing job training, green spaces, education, and community engagement.

Join Sustainable Business Network of Detroit, a Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Foundation-funded initiative, and Inforum for breakfast on Oct. 31 to learn more about these efforts and the economic benefits of a green environment from an expert panel.

Speakers:

Lionel Bradford, president and executive director, Greening of Detroit

Lionel Bradford leads the Greening of Detroit, a nonprofit devoted to creating sustainable growth of a healthy urban community through trees, green spaces, education, training, and job opportunities. Bradford, who has a bachelor’s degree in urban forestry, began his career as a forestry technician with the U.S. Forest Service at the Jemez Springs National Forest in New Mexico. He later held leadership roles with the Boy Scouts in Minnesota and Alcon Laboratories in Detroit before starting an eco-friendly drycleaning business in 2006. He joined the Greening of Detroit in 2010 and became CEO in 2017. You can read more about Lionel here.
