SIMULCAST
You've heard the story of the hidden women who helped make space exploration possible.
Now hear from a woman who has soared among the stars!
Astronaut Mae Jemison, a scientist, doctor and crew member on Space Shuttle Endeavour, is a highly accomplished role model in multiple fields. Her career includes serving as Area Peace Corps Medical Officer for Sierra Leone and Liberia, serving as a general practice doctor in Los Angeles and teaching environmental studies at Dartmouth College.
A strong, committed global voice for science literacy, Dr. Jemison in 1994 founded the international science camp "The Earth We Share" for students 12-16 years old from around the world. She also founded and chairs the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence.
She currently leads 100 Starship (100YSS), an initiative seeded by the Department of Defense's Defense Advanced Research Project Agency to assure the capability for human interstellar space travel to another star is possible within the next 100 years.
She also is part of a recently released set of Women of NASA Legos recognizing five notable NASA pioneers. Click here to read her complete bio.
