We will be joined by Elizabeth Babcock, who will become the Director of the American Women’s History Museum on June 3; Jane Abraham, co-chair, Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum; and Telva McGruder, executive director, global body manufacturing engineering, General Motors, who will serve as moderator.

Our keynote speaker will be Elizabeth C. Babcock, director of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.

Elizabeth C. Babcock has been named director of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, effective June 3. Babcock is currently the president and CEO of Forever Balboa Park in San Diego and brings over 20 years of museum leadership experience to the role.

A cultural anthropologist and educator with experience in both the nonprofit and corporate sectors, Elizabeth has deep expertise in public engagement and education strategies, public-private partnerships and organizational development. As founding director of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, Elizabeth will guide the new museum through a transformative period. Established by Congress in December 2020, the museum advances the understanding of women’s contributions and accomplishments throughout U.S. history. Elizabeth will set the vision for the museum and oversee the acquisition of a founding collection, curation of permanent and temporary exhibitions, and expansion of digital education resources beginning before the museum’s construction. Jane Abraham has enjoyed a successful career in the private and nonprofit sectors and the political arena. She served as chair of the Congressional Commission to Study the Potential for a National Women’s History Museum and is currently cochair of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum Founding Council and vice chair of outreach and fundraising.

Jane’s professional assignments have included consulting duties for various private sector companies through Abraham Strategies LLC, a strategic marketing, government affairs, and event planning business she founded in 2002. She has been the chairman of the board of the Susan B. Anthony List for almost 20 years. Prior to that, she served as its president. You can read more about Jane here.
