Carolynn Walton

Carolynn Walton, CPA, was Vice President and Treasurer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM). She also  served as Treasurer and Board Member of the wholly owned subsidiary of BCBSM, Woodward Straits Insurance Company. In these roles, Walton was responsible for managing the company and subsidiaries’ investment portfolios, cash management, and debt management strategies. Additionally, she managed the investment options for the organizations’ pension plans, 401(k) plans, deferred compensation plans, and risk management functions.  The assets under management for the enterprise were approximately $12 billion.  Equally important, Walton was a vital member of the cultural transformation of BCBSM as a co-founder and current member of the Diversity Leadership Council, and serves as a mentor to a myriad of professionals both internally and externally.

Walton has received various external recognition for her achievements including being named the 2015 Insurance Plan Chief Investment Officer of the Year by Intelligence Investor Network and 2010 Woman of Excellence Award by the Michigan Chronicle. 

Walton is a member of the investment subcommittee for Trinity Health System, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of Black Accountants. She volunteers her time on the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Board of Trustees, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, Diversity and Leadership Council, Michigan Women’s Foundation Investment Committee, and Institutional Investors Corporate Roundtable, Advisory Board. 

Walton received her MBA from Western Michigan University and Bachelor of Business Administration from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
